手で書くということ｜高校基礎の英語長文（約170語）

Last year I stopped writing notes by hand.

去年、私はノートを手で書くのをやめました。

Typing was faster, and my notes were easier to read.

打ち込むほうが速く、ノートも読みやすくなりました。

For a few months, I thought I had made a good choice.

数か月のあいだ、よい選択をしたと思っていました。

My bag was lighter, and my desk was cleaner.

かばんは軽くなり、机の上もきれいになりました。

Then came the week when I could remember almost nothing.

そして、ほとんど何も思い出せない週が来ました。

I had written everything down, but the words felt like someone else's.

すべて書きとめてあったのに、その言葉は他人のもののように感じられました。

I must have been copying instead of thinking.

私は考える代わりに、写していたにちがいありません。

The letters had passed through my fingers, not my head.

その文字は、頭ではなく指を通り抜けていたのです。

Writing by hand is slow, and that is the point.

手で書くのは遅く、そこが大事なところです。

You cannot write every word, so you have to choose.

すべての語は書けないので、選ばなければなりません。

The moment when you choose is the moment when you understand.

選ぶその瞬間が、分かる瞬間なのです。

A short note that you wrote yourself is worth more than a long one you copied.

自分で書いた短いメモは、写した長いメモより価値があります。

If I had kept writing by hand, I might have remembered more.

手で書き続けていたら、もっと覚えていたかもしれません。

I cannot prove that, and I will not say it as a fact.

それを証明はできませんし、事実としては言いません。

But I have gone back to paper for the classes that matter to me.

それでも、自分にとって大切な授業では紙に戻りました。
