anotherとotherの違い｜残りが何個あるかで決まる
another は「まだいくつもある中の、もう1つ」を表します。 the other は「残り1つ」、the others は「残り全部」です。 残りがいくつあるか、そして特定できるかどうかで決まります。

another は an + other
another は、もともと an + other がくっついた語です。
だから いつも「1つ」 を指します。
Would you like another cup of tea?（お茶をもう1杯いかがですか）
I don't like this one. Show me another.（これは好きじゃない。別のを見せて）
うしろの名詞は単数形になります。
× another books
○ another book
「まだいくつもある中から、もう1つ」という場面で使います。
お茶はまだポットにあるし、店にはほかの品もある、という状況です。
残りが決まっていれば the other
残りが特定できるときは、the が付きます。
I have two dogs. One is white, and the other is black.
（犬を2匹飼っています。1匹は白で、もう1匹は黒です）
2匹しかいないので、「もう1匹」は決まっています。
決まっているから the が付きます。
ここで another を使うと誤りになります。
× One is white, and another is black.
another は「まだいくつもある」という前提の語だからです。
3つ以上のときの並べ方
3つ以上あるときは、残りの数で言い方が変わります。
残りが1つ → the other
I have three pens. One is red, another is blue, and the other is black.
（3本のうち、1本は赤、もう1本は青、残りの1本は黒）
残り全部 → the others
Ten students came. Two were girls, and the others were boys.
（10人来た。2人は女子で、残りは全員男子）
不特定の複数 → other + 複数形
Some people like coffee. Other people like tea.
（コーヒーが好きな人もいれば、紅茶が好きな人もいる）

one 〜 the other の形をそのまま覚える
2つのものを説明するときの決まった形があります。
One is 〜, and the other is 〜.
よく出る形なので、丸ごと言えるようにしておくと便利です。
I have two brothers. One lives in Tokyo, and the other lives in Osaka.
3つ以上なら、真ん中に another を足していきます。
One is red, another is blue, and the other is black.
最後だけ the other になることに注意してください。
最後は残り1つに決まるから、the が付くのです。

よくある間違い

2匹しかいないので、「もう1匹」は決まっています。
決まっているものには the が付きます。
another は「まだいくつもある中の1つ」という前提の語です。

残り全部を指すときは the others です。

the が付くと「残り全員」という意味になり、
